Built by Arthur Benison Hubback in 1910, Kuala Lumpur Railway Station is one of the iconic building that is located at Jalan Sultan Hishamuddin, KampungAttap. It used to house the offices of the Federated Malay States Railways, but now its primary function is that of the administrative office of the Kereta api Tanah Melayu.
By the architectures of the building, it turns out to be an attraction in the city due to its gorgeous open-plan Renaissance. Featuring with Mughal features such as the elegant chhatris ( the dome-capped pavilions of Indian origin) along its roofline.
Standing for almost 100 years, this beautiful hybrid architectural railway station served as the city's main railway hub before KL Sentral took over in 2001. That's when it began to slowly lose its prominent role as a space for mass transportation. Besides, the original railway hub is still being used today for KTM Komuter services.
Regrettably, despite all of the prestigious aspects that support KL Railway Station, it is still being unappreciated by peoples. The building is left in an unwell-maintained situation and it is dangerous in long-term in the light of the fact that it can destroy the quality of the structure itself. Time over time,
The second issue is related to the first issue which is the lack of people's awareness that this place is the part of history that is very valuable and therefore, it needs to be treasured. Nowadays, peoples especially the one from the early generation tends to ignore the fact of the importance of the history. The history that shaped the future.
Their lack of awareness among peoples is not just caused by their disinterest but it also can be caused by the limitation of the available information regarding this KL Railway Station. Hence, it sparks the needs to publish and providing more details and facts of the building itself so that people can be more respectful towards this historical place.
Through this project, our group hopes that we can remind and educate peoples about the importance of the KL Railway Station and its contribution throughout these several years. Moreover, we also hope that they can help to secure KL Railway Station because like what we have mentioned before, it is now in an unmaintained situation.
